How to get great winter hair! - Rivertowns Moms

Winter is a great time to revamp your hair after a summer of sun, saltwater, chlorine and humidity. “I see almost 90 percent of my clients in the Fall and Winter, and they are ready for a change,” says Alexandre Chouery, founder of the Maison D’Alexandre salon in Greenwich, CT. Alexandre, a father of three young boys, has been in the hair business for over 25 years. Below, he shares 4 tips for getting amazing winter hair.

Refresh Your Cut & Color
“The biggest makeover is always doing away with the split ends and the brassiness of the color that has been oxidized over the summer,” says Alexandre, who recommends lifting hair length to the shoulders and toning the hair.

Take Advantage of the Lack of Humidity
Alexandre says winter is the perfect time to try out a more adventurous or complex cut, since you are dealing with less humidity and resulting frizziness. “You can be creative with the cut, the bangs, the layers,” explains Alexandre.

Detox Your Hair
In summer, many of us use extra products for the afore-mentioned frizziness (not to mention the dry shampoo that has a hold on us all year long). “The scalp keeps a lot of that product and has build up. You wash your face every day. But you don’t  see your scalp and people are not aware of how important it is to detox the scalp and lets the roots of the hair breathe.  It’s. must to detox the scalp. Let the roots breathe. We have services for this at our salon,” says Alexandre. He uses Renee Furterer products for various scalp treatments that both cleanse and soothe.

Brush Your Hair Twice a Day
“You should be brushing your hair twice a day. When you use a flat brush that you pass through your scalp you exfoliate your scalp, let the roots of your hair breathe and detangle the hair which prevents [damage],” says Alexandre. He recommends starting from the ends and working closer to the scalp.
