At Community Nursery School we offer developmentally appropriate curriculums for young children in all areas of a child’s development: physical, emotional, social, and cognitive. We have a caring, qualified staff trained and experienced for work with young children – who are always ready to learn more. We take pride in our separation policy which gives both parents and children a chance to get to know us and feel comfortable being here.
We have a great outdoor play area where young children are free to explore and expand their physical development and growth. They can climb, run, swing, and whet their curiosity about nature. Plus we also have an indoor play area, for those rainy, cold days. This is a place where no one uses an inside voice. It is equipped with a large sandbox and an indoor gym with slides, tunnels, steering wheels, etc. for those young muscles and physical needs that don’t subside with bad weather.
Community Nursery School is a place to be a part of a group, to play, learn, participate, and share as a member of a group, the essence of living in society. Whether we’re cooking, painting, dressing-up, building, or swinging, socializing is always taking place. We work hand in hand with our parent committee to establish policies for the nursery school as well as plan social events for our families.
We follow all New York State Department of Health requirements for COVID and our staff is fully vaccinated.

Early Childhood Center at Temple Beth Shalom
Founded over 25 years ago, TBS Nursery School was created in response to Temple Beth Shalom’s strong commitment to future generations. Our mission is to promote the social, emotional, cognitive, language and physical development of our students while building a community for their families.
Classes include a caregiver+me for toddlers, 2s, 3s, and 4/5-Pre-K classes, team-taught by dedicated, collaborative, passionate professionals who value continued learning and are committed to the growth of each and every child. Our classrooms support learning through play, and encourage group inquiry in a dynamic setting. Sensory exploration, art, music, problem-solving, outdoor play and nature are constants in our classrooms. Our park-like setting offers multiple outdoor playspaces, to allow for inspired time outside in varied environments. Beyond the daily schedule, we also welcome music, art, sign language, yoga/mindfulness, and environmental education/nature specialists to provide further enrichment.
All classrooms meet 5 days a week from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm; Extended Day is available for our 3s and Pre-K programs until 2 pm Monday – Thursday. Shames JCC Early Childhood Center
The Shames JCC Early Childhood Center currently offers programs for 2’s, 3’s, and 4’s and follows an emergent curriculum, finding inspiration from Reggio Emilia. Daily activities are about exploration and discovery; exploring with senses, asking questions, testing theories, making plans, and thinking deeply. Much of the day is spent in outdoor learning environments and the natural world—children use these different learning spaces for activities involving nature, stories, construction, mathematical reasoning, and music. We feel it is essential that we make every effort to keep our children in touch with the Earth; its natural rhythms, the changing of the seasons, its beauty and mystery.
